Let's say you're traveling with your everyday electric razor. If the batteries run out along the way, there's no need to panic. You can ask for AA batteries at any store in your destination and they will be refilled. It's no different when you travel abroad. This is thanks to an agreement that is common around the world - an international standard. This is not the case with rechargeable electric razors, even if they are the same type. The power supply voltage may not be the same 100V as in Japan, and the plug shape is different. Still, if you know the country you're going to, the plug shape and voltage will be the same in that country, so you can prepare accordingly.

ふだん使っている電動剃刀をもって旅に出たとしよう。途中で電池がなくなったとしてもあわてることはない。旅先の店でも，〈単三〉電池をくれと言えば補充できる。海外旅行でも変わることはない。世界中に共通する約束――国際標準――があるおかげである。同じ電動剃刀でも充電式だとそうはいかない。電源の電圧が日本と同じに100Vであるとは限らないし，プラグの形状も違っている。それでも，行く先の国がわかっていれば，その国の中ではプラグの形状も電圧も同じだからそれなりに準備をしていけばよい。
