She was a gisaeng (female prostitute) from the Joseon Dynasty, Korea, and is known as a righteous prostitute in the Imjin-Jeongyu Japanese Invasion (1552-1559). She was born in Jangsu, Jeolla Province. In June 1593, the Japanese army, who had occupied Jinju Fortress in Gyeongsang Province, held a drinking party at Chuseokru, on the banks of the Nam River, which flows to the south of the fortress. Nongae, who was present at the party, invited a Japanese military commander (known in Korea as Mogunimura Rokusuke) onto a rock, and together they threw themselves into the Nam River. Since then, this rock has been considered a righteous rock, and a Nongae shrine was built at the back of Chuseokru, where a ceremony is held every June.

朝鮮，李朝時代の妓生（キーセン）で，壬辰･丁酉倭乱(文禄･慶長の役)の義妓として知られる。全羅道長水生れ。1593年6月，慶尚道の晋州城を占領した日本軍は，城の南側を流れる南江のほとりの矗石（ちくせき）楼で酒宴を開いた。その席にはべらせられた論介は日本の一武将(朝鮮では毛谷村六助とされる)を岩の上にさそいだし，抱きかかえて共に南江に身を投じた。以来，この岩を義岩とし，矗石楼の奥に論介祠堂を建て，毎年6月に祭事が行われる。
