A cape jutting out into Suruga Bay at the northwestern tip of the Izu Peninsula in eastern Shizuoka Prefecture. It is a 1km-long sand spit at the northwestern foot of Mount Daruma, and is also known as Kusabi Island. It belongs to Numazu City. A huge juniper forest (a natural monument) thrives on the cape, and Ose Shrine, a shrine listed in the Shikinaikan, is located there, famous for its Boat Festival (April). Within the sacred area is a freshwater sacred pond, one of the Seven Wonders of Izu, where carp and crucian carp live. The view of Mount Fuji is particularly spectacular, and in summer the area is bustling with visitors for its beaches and campsites. It belongs to Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.OsezakiSource: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
