【history】
The predecessor of the lottery was the Tomikuji lottery, which was popular during the Edo period, but was banned by the Meiji government in 1868 (Meiji 1). It was revived in July 1945 as the Kachifuda lottery. This was issued by the government based on the Temporary Fund Adjustment Law (promulgated in 1937) to raise military funds, but Japan was defeated in the war before the lottery could be held.
