A mammal of the Bovidae family in the order Artiodactyla. A large antelope with a body shape reminiscent of a horse. Sometimes called the horse antelope in English. Its body color is pale reddish brown overall, with prominent black and white markings on its face. Its ears are long and pointed, with tufts of hair at the tips. Both males and females have horns that curve backwards, which are rather small compared to the body, measuring 55-99 cm in length. Distributed from Senegal and Ethiopia to southern South Africa. Body length is 190-240 cm, shoulder height is 126-145 cm, tail length is 37-48 cm, and weight is 220-300 kg.

偶蹄目ウシ科の哺乳類。ウマを思わせる体型をした大型のアンテロープ。英名でhorse antelope(ウマアンテロープ)と呼ばれることがある。体色は全体に淡い赤茶色，顔には白と黒の顕著な斑紋がある。耳は長く，先がとがり，先端に房毛（ふさげ）がはえる。後方に湾曲する角は雌雄ともにあり，体のわりにはやや小さく長さ55～99cm。セネガル，エチオピアから南アフリカ南部に分布。体長190～240cm，肩高126～145cm，尾長37～48cm，体重220～300kg。
