The Luvians, who spoke Luvian, are believed to have been pushed out of central Asia Minor by the Hittites and established the kingdom of Arzawa in the southwest, and are presumed to have had contact with the Greeks. Recent research has revealed that the Hittite hieroglyphic language, which was widely distributed in Anatolia and northern Syria from the 18th to the 8th centuries BC, especially those from the 13th century onwards, was Luvian.
