Born: 1439. Florence Died January 7, 1507. Italian painter in Florence. In 1453 he entered the workshop of N. Bicci, and later studied under B. Gozzoli, and was active in Florence. In 1481 he participated in the decoration of the murals in the Sistine Chapel in Rome, producing works such as "The Last Supper." Although his style was eclectic, he is known for mentoring many Florentine painters, including P. Cosimo, A. Sarto, and F. Bartolomeo. His works include "Madonna and Two Saints" (1492, Galleria dell'Accademia, Florence).
