Japanese: パイル(英語表記)pile
Pile (English spelling)
The soft raised pile, tufts, rings, and feathers that cover the surface of a fabric. It also refers to pile weaves that have these. There are cut piles, where the woven pile on the surface of the fabric is cut, and uncut piles, where the pile is left in the rings without being cut. Cut piles include velvet, velvet, seal, astrakhan, moquette, and carpets, while towels are a typical example of uncut pile. It is thick and elastic, has good heat retention, insulation, and sound absorption properties, is abrasion resistant, and has a soft feel. It is used in wool, silk, cotton, and synthetic fiber fabrics, and is used for rugs, chair upholstery, curtains, cold weather clothing, and ceremonial clothing, as well as industrial uses such as insulation materials and filters.
