Casemosa (Casemeria verrucosa) - Casemosa (English spelling)

Casemosa (Casemeria verrucosa) - Casemosa (English spelling)
A worm-shaped mollusc of the family Corallidae in the class Aplacophoridae. In Amakusa, they are called Kagaami, which means "snail nets," and so they are named after the way they get caught in these nets. The largest ones are about 30cm long and 1cm wide, but they are usually smaller. They are long and slender but without segments. Their body surface is smooth, but has some warty bumps and yellow, blue, and green spots on a dark brown background, giving them a poisonous appearance. Their mouth is at the front end, and a thin groove runs from front to back on the ventral side, so this species is also known as the Groove-Gastric. It is thought that these grooves are a degenerated form of the wide legs of snail shells.
