Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A Gigaku mask maker from the Nara period. Five wooden Gigaku masks with his name inscribed remain in Shosoin and Todaiji Temple, but no dates are listed. Of the five, two are Suikojong in Shosoin and three are Shishiji, Wugong, and Taikoji in Todaiji Temple. The natural expressions and outstanding craftsmanship seen in these masks, despite their somewhat long faces, put them on a par with those of Sang (General) Lee U-seong, Kiyoyoshi, and Enkin, who created the masks for the eye-opening ceremony of the Great Buddha of Todaiji Temple, and he is considered to be one of the artists active in the same era. <References> Ishida Shigesaku, "Research on the Gigaku Masks of the Shosoin," and "Gigaku Masks of the Shosoin," edited by the Shosoin Office.
