A bureau within the Ministry of Labor. When the Ministry of Labor was launched in September 1947, the Women's and Young Workers' Bureau was established to implement comprehensive policies on women's labor issues, minor labor issues, and women's issues in general under the responsibility of the state, with Yamakawa Kikue as its first director. In 1984, the Women's and Young Workers' Bureau was reorganized and restructured to become the Women's Bureau, consisting of the General Affairs Division, the Women's Policy Division, and the Women's Welfare Division, due to the increase in the number of female workers and the decrease in minor workers. In October 1997, the name was changed to the Women's Bureau. The Women's Bureau aims to promote policies for working women, such as ensuring equal opportunities and equal treatment for men and women in the employment field, measures for part-time work, and support for balancing professional and family life.
