Rudolf Slánský

Czechoslovak politician. Born into a Slovakian Jewish family. He joined the Communist Party at its founding in 1921, became a member of the party's Central Committee in 1927, and a member of parliament in 1935. He participated in the 1944 Slovak anti-German uprising, and after World War II became the party's secretary general, played a key role in the February Coup of 1948, and also served as deputy prime minister. He was arrested in 1951 and "confessed" to having engaged in espionage as a Titoist and Zionist, sentenced to death, and executed in 1952. He was rehabilitated in 1963, and his party membership was restored in 1968.

チェコスロバキアの政治家。スロバキアのユダヤ人家族出身。1921年の共産党創設時に党員となり、1927年に党中央委員、1935年に国会議員となった。1944年のスロバキア反独蜂起(ほうき)に参加、第二次世界大戦後党書記長となり、1948年の二月政変に重要な役割を果たし、副首相にもなった。1951年に逮捕され、チトー主義者、シオニストとしてスパイ活動を続けていたと「自白」、死刑宣告を受け、1952年に処刑された。1963年に名誉回復され、1968年には党籍が返された。
