Susumu Odagiri
1924-1992 A literary critic from the late Showa to Heisei eras.
Born September 13, 1924. Younger brother of Odagiri Hideo. After working as an editor for Kaizo, he became a professor at Rikkyo University in 1964. He worked on researching modern literature and organizing materials. In 1963, he founded the Museum of Modern Japanese Literature with Takami Jun and Ito Sei, and became chairman in 1971. In 1984, he became director of the Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature. He passed away on December 20, 1992. He was 68 years old. He was born in Tokyo and graduated from Waseda University. His works include "The Establishment of Showa Literature" and "A Comprehensive Guide to Contemporary Japanese Literature," which he edited.
