A Chinese Zen monk from the Song Dynasty. He belonged to the Yangqi school of the Rinzai sect. His common surname was Luo. His pen name was Muchaku. His posthumous names were Buddhaka Zenji and Shinkaku Zenji. He was born in Songning, Pengzhou (Sichuan Province). He became a monk at a young age and trained under high-ranking monks in various regions before becoming a disciple of the Five Patriarchs, Fayan (1024?-1104), and inheriting their teachings. He lived in Zhaojue Temple in Chengdu, and later moved to Blue Rock in Mount Jia, where he compiled a hundred of Xuedou Chongxian's hymns (comments on ancient rules) for his disciples. He compiled these into the 10 volumes of the Blue Rock Records, and also compiled Xuedou's commentaries on ancient stories (comments on ancient stories) into the 2 volumes of the Jie Jie Records.
