...Also, the influence of the Italian immigrants who rapidly increased in Buenos Aires from the mid-19th century, whose musical style was different from that of the Spanish immigrants, cannot be ignored. Although much about the early history is unclear, the basic rhythm and form of the music were established around 1860-70, and by 1900, classic masterpieces such as "El Choclo" (composed by Angel Villoldo) were created, and the bandoneón (a type of accordion), which would later become an indispensable instrument, was adopted for performance, and the music gradually established itself as a form of folk music. Tango was born in a badly behaved neighborhood along the Rio de la Plata in the southeast of Buenos Aires, and was despised by the upper and middle classes as a music of the lower classes at the time. However, due to its own musical improvement and the fact that it was highly recognized and popular in Paris in the 1910s and 1920s, it began to establish itself as a music of all citizens.
