Leghorn [species] - Leghorn
A breed of chicken. A typical egg-laying breed originating from Italy. They start laying eggs at about 5 months of age, and can lay up to 365 eggs a year, usually 250-280. Their feathers are white or brown, and there are four types of comb, but most in Japan have a single white comb. Most egg-laying chickens in Japan are crossbreds of this line. Females weigh about 2kg.

ニワトリの一品種。イタリア原産の代表的な卵用品種。5ヵ月ぐらいで産卵を開始し,年間産卵数は最高365個で,ふつう250〜280個を産む。羽色は白色または褐色で,とさかには4型あるが,日本では単冠白色のものが大部分。日本の卵用鶏のほとんどはこの系統の交配種。体重は雌で2kgぐらい。
