Khanka Lake (English spelling) Ozero Khanka

Japanese: ハンカ[湖]（英語表記）Ozero Khanka

A lake on the border between China (Heilongjiang Province) and the Russian Federation (Primoryo Krai). In China it is called Lake Xingkai. The shoreline advances and retreats depending on the amount of precipitation, so its area is not constant, but when the water level is high the Russian estimate is 4,000-4,400 km2, while the Chinese estimate is 4,380 km2. Considering its area, the lake is extremely shallow, only 10 meters deep at its deepest. The western shore is a plateau cliff, but the other shores are low and marshy. On the northern shore, which is in Chinese territory, is Little Lake Xingkai (Malaya Khanka), blocked by a sand spit.

中国(黒竜江省)とロシア連邦(沿海州)との国境上にある湖。中国では興凱（こうがい）湖と呼ぶ。降水の多少により湖岸線が進出･後退をするので面積は一定でないが，水面の高いときの面積はロシアの数値では4000～4400km2，中国の数値では4380km2。面積のわりには水深はきわめて浅く，最深でも10m。西岸は台地の崖が続くが，その他の岸は低平で湿地が広がる。北岸の中国領には砂嘴（さし）でさえぎられた小興凱湖(マーラヤ･ハンカ)がある。
