Cologne School - Cologne is (English spelling) Kölnische Malerschule
A general term for paintings produced mainly in Cologne, Germany, from the late 14th century to the early 15th century. Characterized by a delicate and elegant style, the paintings have a dreamlike atmosphere. The first outstanding painter of this school was the Painter of St. Veronica, who is recorded to have been active in Cologne around 1400-1420, and the school's peak was reached by S. Lochner, a southern German painter who came to Cologne around 1430. Other well-known works include the Painter of the Life of Mary and the Painter of the St. Bartholomew Altarpiece.
