Shozo Chiba

Japanese: 千葉省三 - ちばしょうぞう
Shozo Chiba

A children's writer. Born in Tochigi Prefecture. After graduating from Utsunomiya Middle School, he worked as a substitute teacher before moving to Tokyo. In 1916 (Taisho 5), he joined Kodomosha and edited the picture magazines "Kodomo" and "Dowa." He also published many original stories in "Dowa." After the March 1945 issue of "Hirotsuta Kamisama," he published "Goemon Style" and "Wanwan Monogatari." In 1950, he featured a lively child in "Tora-chan's Diary," playing a pioneering role in bringing a realistic portrayal of children to Japanese children's literature. In 1953 (Showa 3), he published "Dowa Bungaku" with Sakai Tomohiko and Kitamura Hisao, and published fairy tales rooted in his hometown, such as "Oji-basha" and "Jinbei Gakko." His fairy tale collections include "Tote Basha," "Negi Bouzu," "Jizo-sama," and "Bamboo Grove."
