The Greek version of the Sanskrit Panchatantra, a book of monarchical science in the form of animal fables. It was translated into Pahlavi in the 6th century, into Syriac at the end of the same century, and into Arabic in the 8th century. In the 11th century, a Greek version was created by Symeon Set from the Arabic version entitled Kalila and Dimna. At that time, the names of the two jackals in the Arabic title were changed to Stephanites and Ichnerates. [Watanabe Kinichi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
