Lexington
A town in the Shenandoah Valley in western Virginia, USA. Founded in 1777 on the banks of the Maury River. It was destroyed by fire in 1796 and rebuilt, but was also damaged during the Civil War. It is home to Washington and Lee University (founded in 1749), named after George Washington and Robert Edward Lee, and the Virginia Military Institute (founded in 1839). It is an agricultural center with a thriving trade in meat and dairy products. Population: 7,042 (2010).

A city in eastern Massachusetts, USA. Located about 17 km northwest of Boston. Famous as the site of the Battle of Lexington and Concord (April 19, 1775), a preliminary battle of the American War of Independence. The first normal school in the USA was founded here in 1839. Currently, it is a suburban residential area northwest of Boston, with many commuters using the railroad and highways. Population 28,974 (1990).
