Japanese: クサゼミ(草蟬) - クサゼミ

A general term for insects of the Mogannia genus in the family Cicadidae in the order Hemiptera, or it refers to one of these species. As the name suggests, most species of this group do not live on trees (woody plants), but on grasses such as Miscanthus. The species found west (south) of Okinawa's main island is the Iwasaki grass cicada M. minuta , which is the smallest cicada in Japan, with a body length of just 12-17mm. Its body is black and shiny, and its wings are transparent. It lives on Imperata japonica and Miscanthus, but is now infesting sugarcane fields and is treated as a major pest.

半翅目セミ科クサゼミ属Moganniaの昆虫の総称，またはそのうちの1種を指す。この仲間はその名のとおり，多くの種は樹木(木本類)でなく，ススキなどイネ科草本にすむ。沖縄本島以西(南)に分布している種はイワサキクサゼミM.minutaで，体長12～17mmと小さく日本最小のセミである。体は黒色で光沢があり，翅は透明。チガヤ，ススキなどにすむが，現在ではサトウキビ畑に大発生し，主要害虫として扱われている。
