A poet of the late Kamakura period. Son of Fujiwara Tameie in his later years. His mother was Abutsu. He is the ancestor of the Reizei family, which still exists today. His dispute with his half-brother Tameuji over the inheritance of the Hosokawa estate in Harima is well known from the Izayoi Diary and other sources. In terms of the poetry world, he was estranged from the Nijo family of Tameuji and Tameyo, and was close to the Kyogoku school centered around Fushimi-in and Tamekane. Around the time of Tamekane's exile to Sado (1298-1303), he frequently participated in poetry contests of the Kyogoku school, but as a poet, he held his own position, and in 1310 (Enkei 3), when Tameyo and Tamekane fought over who would be the compiler of the Gyokuyoshu (the Gyokuyoshu), he also wanted to be the compiler. However, this did not come to fruition, and he ended up being revered as a leader of the Kamakura poetry world, based in the Kanto region, the territory his mother had developed. He died on July 17, 3rd year of the Karyaku era. It is believed that he selected "Shui Futeishu" and "Ryūfushō", which are collections of poems from the Kamakura poetry world, and that he had his disciple Fujiwara Nagakiyo select "Fuboku Wakashō". The second patriarch of the Jishu sect, Taa Shinkyō, was also his disciple in poetry, and he also had a connection with Musō Soseki in poetry. His family anthology "Tōkoku Wakashō" was selected by a later author. His style of poetry was moderate, and his theory on poetry was liberal. He is said to have also created a formula for linked verse. His grave is at Jōkōmyō-ji Temple in Fujigayatsu, Kamakura. On a flower-filled, moon-filled night, my short dream is still parting.
