The Bride of Otori Castle

...This medium-length film made Nakamura Kinnosuke and Azuma Chiyonosuke superstars, and with young stars such as Chiezo and Utaemon, and mid-career stars such as Tsukigata Ryunosuke and Otomo Ryutaro, the company formed an unrivaled period drama kingdom in the 1950s. It also boasted a strong line-up of directors such as Ito Daisuke, Uchida Tomu, Makino Masahiro, Imai Tadashi, Ieki Miyoji, and Sekigawa Hideo, and produced ambitious modern dramas such as "Rice" (directed by Imai Tadashi, 1958) and "The Naked Sun" (directed by Ieki Miyoji, 1958), and was the first to produce a color CinemaScope film, "The Bride of Houjo" (directed by Matsuda Sadatsugu), which caused a sensation. In 1956, Toei Animation Co., Ltd. was established, and the company expanded into animation production. In 1960, Daini Toei began distributing films. The company also consistently sought to improve its directly managed cinemas, and implemented measures to stabilize its business foundations based on rationalization and diversification.
