Nakajo [town] - Nakajo
A former town in Kitakanbara County in northern Niigata Prefecture. It occupies the Tainai River alluvial plain in the northern part of the Echigo Plain and faces the Sea of ​​Japan. Since the Edo period, the main settlement has developed as a post town and market town on the Yonezawa Kaido road, and the Uetsu Main Line runs through it. It produces natural gas and engages in chemical manufacturing. It cultivates rice, vegetables, and tobacco leaves. In September 2005, it merged with Kurokawa Village in Kitakanbara County to become a city, Tainai City. 84.58 km2 . Population 27,655 (2003).
