Rei-sen (gratuity money)
〘noun〙① Money used to give a gift. Gifts. ※Daijo-in Temple and Shrine Miscellany - November 22, 1465 (Kansho 6) "The two peasants then gave 1,500 pieces of gift money." [Late Han Shu - Yotsugi Zokuden] ② Money offered to the shogunate on special occasions during the Muromachi period. Also, bribes given to shogunate officials. ※Kyōka/Kingen Wakashu (around 1492-1501) "The thought of gift money (reisen) was so unbearable that I didn't realize I would lose my life."
