Anglo-Dutch Agreement

Japanese: 英蘭協約 - えいらんきょうやく

An agreement concluded in 1824 between Britain and the Netherlands, which determined the spheres of influence of both countries in Asia. The Napoleonic Wars brought about major changes in the spheres of influence of the colonial rule of both Britain and the Netherlands, and in Southeast Asia, the British occupation of Singapore (1819) prompted diplomatic negotiations with the Netherlands, which opposed this. As a result, the Netherlands abandoned its trading posts and territories in India and the Malay Peninsula, while Britain abandoned its territories and trading posts in Sumatra, and the spheres of influence of both countries were determined to be roughly the border along the Straits of Malacca.

1824年にイギリスとオランダとの間で結ばれた協約。これによりアジアにおける両国の勢力範囲が確定された。ナポレオン戦争によってイギリス，オランダ両国の植民地支配の勢力範囲に大きな変動が起こり，東南アジアにおいてもイギリスのシンガポール占領(1819)をきっかけに，これに反対するオランダとの間に外交交渉が行われた。その結果，オランダはインドおよびマレー半島にあった商館，領土等を放棄し，一方，イギリスはスマトラ島にあった領土，商館等を放棄し，ほぼマラッカ海峡を境界線とする両国の勢力範囲を定めた。
