Rougemont (English spelling) Denis de Rougemont

Swiss author. Born in Neuchâtel, he wrote in French. In 1932, he collaborated with E. Meunier and participated in the founding of the magazine Esprit, which advocated personalism, but in 1939 he attracted attention with L'Amour et l'Occident (West Europe and Love). After spending World War II in the United States, he analyzed the crisis of European consciousness in The Devil's Share (1944), founded the European Cultural Center in Geneva in 1950, and wrote works such as Federalism and Nationalism, Europe's Eighteenth Century (1961), Europe's Chance (1962), and Letters to Europeans (1970).

スイスの作家。ヌーシャテルに生まれ、フランス語で執筆。1932年、E・ムーニエに協力、人格主義を標榜(ひょうぼう)する『エスプリ』誌の創刊に加わるが、39年の『西欧と愛』L'Amour et l'Occidentで注目される。第二次世界大戦中をアメリカで過ごしたあと、『悪魔の分け前』（1944）でヨーロッパ的意識の危機を分析し、50年にジュネーブにヨーロッパ文化センターを創立、『連邦主義と民族主義』、『ヨーロッパの18世紀』（1961）、『ヨーロッパのチャンス』（1962）、『ヨーロッパ人への手紙』（1970）などを著す。
