A city in northern Osaka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1948. The central city is located in the Osaka Plain, making up the southern half of the city. During the Keicho era, it developed as a castle town founded by Katagiri Katsumoto, and later as a trading post along the Kameoka Kaido road. After the war, electrical machinery, chemical, and food factories moved in, and it became an industrial city in the Osaka Industrial Zone. Vegetables are produced in the rural areas, and udo is a local specialty. The city is served by the Tokaido Main Line, Hankyu Kyoto Line, and Osaka Monorail, and there is an interchange on the Meishin Expressway. Distribution facilities are concentrated nearby, and the Kita-Osaka Distribution Business Complex is located in the south. 大阪府北部の市。1948年市制。中心市街は南半部を占める大阪平野部にあり,慶長年間片桐且元の城下町,のち亀岡街道沿いの交易地として発達。戦後は電機・化学・食品の工場が進出,大阪工業圏の工業都市となった。農村部では野菜を産し,特産にウドがある。東海道本線,阪急京都線,大阪モノレールが通じ,名神高速道路のインターチェンジがあり,付近には流通機能が集中し,南部には北大阪流通業務団地がある。西部の千里山など住宅地化が著しい。76.49km2。27万4822人(2010)。
