Ibaraki [city] - Ibaraki
A city in northern Osaka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1948. The central city is located in the Osaka Plain, making up the southern half of the city. During the Keicho era, it developed as a castle town founded by Katagiri Katsumoto, and later as a trading post along the Kameoka Kaido road. After the war, electrical machinery, chemical, and food factories moved in, and it became an industrial city in the Osaka Industrial Zone. Vegetables are produced in the rural areas, and udo is a local specialty. The city is served by the Tokaido Main Line, Hankyu Kyoto Line, and Osaka Monorail, and there is an interchange on the Meishin Expressway. Distribution facilities are concentrated nearby, and the Kita-Osaka Distribution Business Complex is located in the south. Residential development is remarkable, including Senriyama in the west. 76.49 km2 . Population: 274,822 (2010).
