A town in Kitasaku District, eastern Nagano Prefecture. With the Saku Basin in the center and the foothills of Mt. Asama in the north, the town is famous for its highland vegetable cultivation. Precision machinery and food manufacturing are also active, and tourism development is also progressing. The town is served by the third-sector Shinano Railway. Area 58.79 km2 .
