The capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It is called Luxembourg in French. It is located in the south of the country, about 300 km northwest of Paris and 200 km southeast of Brussels. It has a population of 76,000 (1989). It spreads over three plateaus at an altitude of 320 to 350 meters, where the Alzette River and its tributaries curve and form a deep valley reaching up to 60 meters. The city is extremely attractive, with a rich variety of views due to the rugged terrain, castle ruins, parks, bridges from various eras connecting the three districts, refined old streets, and Notre Dame Cathedral (early 17th century).
