...In 1988, the astronomy-related operations of the former Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of the Navy were integrated to form the Tokyo Astronomical Observatory, which was established in Iikura, Azabu, and moved to Mitaka in 1924, where it remains to this day. After World War II, the Norikura Corona Observatory was built in 1949, the Okayama Astrophysical Observatory in 1960, the Dodaira Observatory in 1962, the Nobeyama Solar Radio Observatory in 1969, the Kiso Observatory in 1974, and the Nobeyama Space Radio Observatory in 1978. The 188 cm reflecting telescope in Okayama, the 105 cm Schmidt telescope in Kiso, and the 45 m space radio telescope in Nobeyama are also available for joint use throughout the country. ...
