…Father and son, British watercolorists. The father, Alexander Cozens (c. 1717-86), is said to have been born in Russia, but was in England in 1742, and after a short stay in Italy, he returned to England in 1746 and established a family of watercolor landscape painters. He invented a technique called blot drawing, which utilizes the color stains that are accidentally made on the paper, and became a pioneer of British Romantic landscape painting. The son, John Robert Cozens (1752-99), was born in London. …
