A local clan that was powerful in the late ancient and early medieval periods, based in the Yokota area of Nita County, Izumo Province. In the late Heian period, Iwashimizu Hachiman Yokota Bekku (Yokota Manor) was established in this area as one of the Izumo Hassho Hachiman, and it became an important base of the Heike forces in Izumo at the end of the Heian period and the beginning of the Kamakura period. The Yokota clan was a local clan descended from the Nita County Governor, and it is assumed that the establishment of Yokota Bekku (Manor) was based on the donation of land by the Yokota clan. In the Genpei Seisuiki, the name of Yokota Hyoe no Jo Koreyuki appears as one of the Izumo lords who participated in the Battle of Ichinotani as part of the Heike forces, and in the Iwami Masuda documents dated May 1184 (Genryaku 1), the name of Yokota Hyoe no Jo also appears as a Heike lord Izumo lord whom Kajiwara Kagetoki ordered the vassals and local government officials of the neighboring Iwami Province to hunt down.
