During the Russo-Japanese War, the Japanese army blockaded the Russian naval base of Port Arthur and attacked its forts. They scuttled ships at the entrance to the harbor to block the Russian fleet, and hurried to occupy the fortifications defended by Stessel before the arrival of the Baltic Fleet. They attempted a short-term surprise attack with the 3rd Army under the command of Nogi Maresuke, but failed. After seven months of hard fighting, they occupied Hill 203, and took it by bombarding the fleet in the bay with fortress guns. 59,000 Japanese troops were killed or wounded. The battle during the Sino-Japanese War in which they landed at Huayukou on the east coast of the Liaodong Peninsula, occupied Jinzhou Fort, and then took the fortifications of Port Arthur is also called the Capture of Port Arthur. → Related topics Tadaharu Sakurai | Stesseli | Takeo Hirose | Rozhdestvensky Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
