Japanese: 海運取引所 - かいうんとりひきしょ（英語表記）shipping exchange

Originally, it meant a specific place where various shipping transactions were conducted. However, the only concrete market form in which transactions were conducted at a specific place and time was the Baltic Mercantile and Shipping Exchange in London, which originated as a coffee house in the late 17th century. The Baltic Mercantile and Shipping Exchange has a membership system consisting of shipping brokers, shipowners, operators, cargo owners, and other related parties, and is managed and operated by a committee made up of representatives elected by members from each field.

本来は各種の海運取引が行われる具体的な場を指す。ただし，特定の場所と時間において取引が行われる具体的市場形態にあるのは，17世紀後半のコーヒー･ハウスにその起源をもつロンドンのボルチック海運取引所The Baltic Mercantile and Shipping Exchangeのみである。このボルチック海運取引所は，海運ブローカー，船主，運航業者，荷主，その他関係者等で構成される会員制をとり，これら各分野の会員から選出された代表者で構成される委員会によって管理運営されている。
