This book consists of over 200,000 words, and according to the "Preface" at the end of the "Twelve Chronicles," its purpose was to help people understand the great ways of nature and the norms for practicing human ethics. The Twelve Chronicles consists of 61 chapters, five of which are chronicles titled Mengchun, Zhongshun, Jishun, Mengxia, Zhongxia, Jixia, Mengqiu, Zhongshun, Jishun, Mengdong, Zhongshun, and Jiwang, as well as a preface. The Eight Commentaries consists of 63 chapters, eight of which are on the beginning, filial piety, sincerity, foresight, knowledge, examining one's views, responding to the world, leaving the world behind, and relying on the Emperor (Yushi only has seven).
