The official name is the Republic of South Africa. Currently, it is the Transvaal Province in the northeastern part of the Republic of South Africa. As a result of the Great Trek, a great inland migration of the Boers from 1835, an autonomous state for the Boers was established north of the Vaal River. The British government recognized this in the Sand River Agreement of 1852, and M. Pretorius became the first president.
