1873‐1936 Turkish poet. Author of the lyrics for the Turkish Republic's national anthem, "March of Independence." After the Young Turk Revolution of 1908, he published many poems as editor-in-chief of the magazine "True Path," which he founded himself, and played an active role as a leader of Islamism. After World War I, he participated in Kemal Ataturk's liberation movement and became a member of parliament, during which time he wrote the lyrics for "March of Independence."
