[Born] Around 390 B.C. [Died] c. 324 BC Ancient Greek Athenian politician and orator. He was of noble birth and supported Demosthenes against the Macedonian invasion. He was in charge of the state finances for 12 years after the defeat at the Battle of Chaeronea. He was known for his financial skills and his advocacy of strict social discipline. He also worked on the rebuilding of the Theater of Dionysus and commissioned official copies of the works of the three great Greek tragic poets. Only one of his 15 speeches remains. Lycurgus |
