Echelon faults

Also called echelon faults. A group of faults arranged in an echelon pattern. When one side of an area is subjected to compression and the other to tension, echelon cracks form, and when the cracks are misaligned, it becomes an echelon fault. エシェロン断層ともいう。雁行状に配列する断層群。一つの地域の一方に圧縮力，他方に展張力を受けると雁行状の割れ目ができ，割れ目で食違いが生じると雁行断層となる。雁行配列は褶曲山脈にもみられる。 (→断層 )
