Petronius Maximus

Japanese: ペトロニウス・マクシムス(英語表記)Petronius Maximus
Petronius Maximus
396‐455
Western Emperor of the Roman Empire. Reigned 455. A member of a distinguished noble family in Rome, he served as governor of Rome (Praeffectus Urbi, 420 or 21, 433), prefect of Italy (Praeffectus Praetorio Italiae, 435, 439-41), and consul (433, 443). He is thought to have encouraged Valentinian III to assassinate Aetius. In March 455, he plotted to assassinate Aetius, ascended the throne the day after the assassination, and forcibly married the former emperor's wife. However, when the Vandals approached Rome in May of the same year, he attempted to flee, and was killed on the way, probably by his guards.
