Year of death: March 24, 1584 (May 4, 1584) Year of birth: 1529 A military commander in Hizen (Saga Prefecture, Nagasaki Prefecture) during the Sengoku period. His real name changed to Tanenobu, Takatane, and Takanobu. The character "taka" was given to him by Ouchi Yoshitaka. His childhood name was Chohoshimaru. He held the position of Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Yamashiro no Kami. He was the son of Chikae. He initially became a monk, but in 1546 (Tenbun 15), he returned to secular life and inherited the Mizugae Ryuzoji clan. When Tanehide of the main Ryuzoji family died in 1547, he also inherited the main family. After the downfall of Ouchi Yoshitaka, he fled to Chikugo (Fukuoka Prefecture) in a rebellion by his vassal Dobashi Iemasu. In 1559, he returned to Saga Castle. He later defeated powerful forces in Hizen such as Shoni Fuyuhisa and Jindai Katsutoshi, and after the rise of the Mori clan, he aligned himself with them and opposed Hizen Shugo Otomo Sorin. After defeating the Otomo forces at the Battle of Hizen Imayama in 1570 and making peace with them, he fought against local lords in various parts of Hizen. After the Battle of Mimikawa in November 1578, he again rebelled against the Otomo clan, advancing into Chikugo, Chikuzen (Fukuoka Prefecture), and Higo (Kumamoto Prefecture), and quickly became a feudal lord. However, it is incorrect to say that early modern historical records describe him as the "Governor of the Five Provinces." In the same year, he handed over the family headship to his son Masaie and retired, but he continued to be involved in governing his territory. On March 24, 1579, he was killed in battle at Okitanawate while fighting the Shimazu forces that had advanced north in Shimabara. After Takanobu's death, the Ryuzoji clan rapidly lost influence. <References> Kawazoe Hiroshi, "Ryuzoji Takanobu," Horimoto Kazushige, "The Two Heads of the Ryuzoji Clan and Substitution" (Kyushu Historical Studies, No. 109) (Saeki Hirotsugu) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
