Honzan School
〘Noun〙 A sect of Shugendo. Its founder was Zoyo, a Dharma grandson of the Tendai sect monk Enchin, and its head temple is Shogoin in Kyoto. Also called the Honzan faction. Head temple. ※Konohagoromo (1832), Vol. 1: "The mountain priests under the Shogoin temple gates are called the Honzan faction, and the branch sect of Sanboin is called the Tozan faction."
