Japanese: 竜鬚溝 - りゅうしゅこう（英語表記）Lóng xū gōu

The name of a new Chinese drama. This work was produced in 1951 when Lao She was awarded the title of People's Artist. The story revolves around the new government's attempt to renovate an extremely filthy sewage ditch in a slum in Beijing as a sanitation campaign using limited financial resources, and the story pits old and new societies and characters against each other, emphasizing the superiority of socialism. This is a representative play that best conveys the vitality of the new China shortly after its liberation.
