A British airline. Its airline code is BA. It was established in 1971 by the merger of the national airline British Overseas Airways (BOAC) and the national airline British European Airways (BEA). BOAC began flying to Japan in 1948. It was privatized in 1987. It is the UK's leading international passenger airline. It discontinued service of its supersonic aircraft Concorde at the end of 2003. In January 2011, it merged with Iberia to establish the holding company IAG (International Consolidated Airlines Group). It is a member of the oneworld airline alliance, which includes American Airlines and Qantas.
