Yu Woo Seok - Ryuusha

Japanese: 劉禹錫 - りゅううしゃく
Yu Woo Seok - Ryuusha

A poet from the mid-Tang period in China. His pen name was Meng De. He claimed to be a descendant of Liu Sheng, King Jing of Zhongshan (Hebei Province) during the Han Dynasty, but was actually a descendant of the Xiongnu people. His ancestors moved to Luoyang during the Northern Wei Dynasty. He was born in Wu Commandery (Jiangsu Province). Like Liu Zongyuan, he was a Jinshi in 793 (the 9th year of the Zhenyuan era). He joined the party of the reformist Wang Shuwen and was implicated. In September 805 (the 1st year of the Yongzhen era), he was demoted to governor of Lianzhou (Guangdong Province), and in October, he was renamed Sima of Langzhou (Hunan Province). He was appointed as the Minister of Rites for the Inspection and Prince's Guest and was stationed in Luoyang, where he died at the age of 72. In his later years, he exchanged poems with Bai Juyi. In the history of Chinese literature, he is known for refining the folk songs "Citation of the Bamboo Branch" and "Citation of the Willow Branch" into literary works. His style is characterized by deep meanings in casual expressions. He has 30 volumes of "Collection of Liu Binke's Works" and 10 volumes of "Extra Collection."
