A small perennial plant of the Bromeliaceae family that grows on trees in the tropical rainforests of Brazil. It has 15 to 20 loosely tubular leaves. The leaves are thin, pale yellow-green, 15 to 20 cm long and 2 to 3 cm wide. The leaf edges are not sawtoothed, are soft, and slightly twisted overall. The flower stalk is 20 to 25 cm long and red. It produces a flat inflorescence at the tip, 4 to 8 cm long and 6 to 8 cm wide. The numerous bracts, which grow in two rows, are pale yellow-green and pointed at the tips, gradually turn yellow, and have beautiful red bases. The flowers are thin and tubular, with yellow tips on the petals and the lower parts enclosed in a calyx.
