Al-Malik is an oasis city that existed in the Ili Basin on the upper reaches of the Ili River in Central Asia from the 12th to the 15th centuries, and is famous as the capital of the Chagatai Khanate around the 13th century. In contemporary Chinese books, it is written as Ali Ma City or Ali Mari City. The Ili Basin has long been a major trade route between the east and west, and was also a stage for the activities of nomadic forces. In history, several oasis cities that became centers of trade have risen and fallen, and Al-Malik is one of them. It is believed to have been abandoned during the wars that took place at the end of the Chagatai Khanate.

12世紀から15世紀にかけて中央アジアのイリ川上流のイリ盆地に存在したオアシス都市で，13世紀ころのチャガタイ･ハーン国の首都として有名。同時代の漢籍では阿里馬城，阿里麻里城などと表記されている。イリ盆地は古くから東西交易路の幹線が通じ，かつ遊牧民勢力の活動の舞台でもあり，史上いくつかの交易の中心となったオアシス都市の興亡がみられるが，アルマリックもその一つである。チャガタイ･ハーン国末期の戦乱の過程で廃城となったと思われる。
