An American theater company founded in 1947 by director and actor Julian Beck and his wife Judith Malina, and based in New York. Based in a small theater that opened in 1959, they had a major impact by staging shocking plays that rejected conventional realism, such as Jack Gelber's "Connection," which deals with drug addicts, and Kenneth H. Brown's "The Brigade," set in a US Navy brigade. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
